F-Gases Regulation -
Changes from 01.01.2020

Your Schiessl team will be happy to advise you on plant conversions or on the planning of future-oriented new systems!

The following bans on the use or placing on the market of the F-Gases Ordinance will come into force from 01.01.2020:

  • Service prohibition on systems with a refrigerant whose GWP is 2500 or greater and a C02 equivalent of the refrigerant charge greater than 40t.
These systems must either be converted to certified recycled products of the existing refrigerant, or better yet, be converted to a suitable alternative refrigerant with a GWP of less than 2500. In principle, it is not the refrigerant as such that is prohibited, but its use in the above-mentioned systems. In smaller plants with a charge below the 40t limit C02 equivalent, the refrigerant with a GWP greater than 2500 may still be used. Also excluded are systems for product temperatures of -50 degrees C or lower.
  • The placing on the market of stationary refrigeration systems containing a refrigerant with a GWP of 2500 or higher is prohibited.
From 01.01.2020, a suitable solution with a chemical refrigerant with a correspondingly smaller GWP or a natural refrigerant must be selected here.the regulation with the 40t C02 equivalent limit as with the service ban does not apply here. In this case, the prohibition affects all systems. The only exception here are also systems for cooling products with a product temperature of -50 degrees C or lower.
