Company history SCHIESSL

Rooted locally, at home internationally

the heart of Schiessl has been beating for refrigeration technology for over 100 years. Robert Schiessl made his entry into the refrigeration industry in 1886 by founding an engineering office Schiessl & Schreyer which, in addition to planning heating systems, also sold their components. Three years later they separated again and Robert Schiessl reserved the distribution of components and expanded it to the emerging branch of the refrigeration industry. In 1924 Robert Schiessl Kühlanlagenbetriebsmittel was founded in Munich. Cooling brines, ammonia, gas masks, thermometers, hydrometers and manometers were the first products. The most important customers at that time were breweries, dairies and ice cream factories. A few years later a distribution warehouse was set up in Nuremberg.

In 1944, the premises in Munich and Nuremberg fell victim to the bombs and were completely destroyed. The entrepreneurial spirit of Robert and Anni Schiessl and their will to rebuild remained intact. After the end of the war, a new attempt was made in the private apartment in Munich. One of the first goals was to develop a long-term concept in order to secure an important position for the company on the German market and later also abroad. It has always been the concern not only to be an efficient supplier to the customer, but above all to be available as a professional partner in solving the problems that arise every day. From 1952 onwards, Schiessl's customer service also included system planning for refrigeration systems and a large tank filling system for refrigerants. More and more articles, including international products, were included and Schiessl became a "full range supplier".

Since the beginning, Schiessl has been based in Munich and then in Nuremberg. From the 1960s onwards, further branches were set up in Germany and a subsidiary with branches in Austria was founded. After the end of the iron curtain, Schiessl expanded to Eastern Europe and initially invested in existing companies in the Czech Republic and Poland. Other countries in Europe followed, so that Schiessl is now represented in 13 countries around the world. The expansion of our own plant construction, as well as a large refrigerant filling facility and, last but not least, a logistics center in Cheb as the central hub for Europe-wide delivery was an important step in further expanding customer service.

Schiessl is now in the third generation of the family and is managed by Anette Schiessl. Co-partner is Helmut Schmidt, who from 1962 onwards successfully led and expanded the company as managing director together with Carl-Georg Schießl as technical director.

Like few such companies in Germany and also in Europe, Schiessl has remained a full-range supplier and offers the entire range of products in the industry with over 70,000 articles and is now one of the major European wholesalers of its kind. Schiessl does not see itself as a pure retailer of refrigeration and air conditioning components. Schiessl sees itself much more as the number one consultant and contact person. Together with the customer, Schiessl develops tailor-made solutions that are individually tailored to specific requirements and wishes for refrigeration technology and as well built in-house. Customers appreciate the combination of trusting cooperation, intensive advice, many years of experience and reliable products.

The primary goal is of course customer satisfaction. Around 400 employees across Europe strive with a lot of commitment, traditional flair and nevertheless progressive spirit, to meet the high expectations that the customer has in the 21st century. This also includes, in particular, meeting the growing demands of an increasingly digitized world. Therefore, in 2017, Schiessl decided to attach even greater importance to "online trading" and is continuously expanding the mySCHIESSL online platform. The platform not only offers the opportunity to purchase thousands of products, but also helps customers to find the right product 24/7, check availability and much more with numerous useful features and technical details in the product jungle of refrigeration and air conditioning technology.

Due to the corona pandemic and the strict contact restrictions, the number of customers using the platform is increasing every day. In the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, however, online trading will never replace the stationary business of the Schiessl branches, but only complement it. "No matter how many explanatory videos we can upload, personal advice from expert to expert is often essential." The large number of products that require explanation is very high in the refrigeration industry. Schiessl will continue to rely heavily on direct customer contacts in the future and will continuously expand the network of branches with technically competent employees.
