The main difference between Discus™ and conventional piston devices lies in the design of the valve plate. The Discus™ valve plate allows refrigerant to enter the cylinder with minimal heat absorption whilst the cavities on the intake side evenly guide the gas and keep losses to a minimum. This provides increased cooling power due to the reduced dead space. The efficiency is therefore increased by up to 12% compared to conventional “affordable” tongue valve compressors. The result is lower operating costs for the user.
